Janelle Monáe To Deliver Commencement Address At HBCU Dillard University

With graduation upon us, everyone wonders who will be the keynote speakers for their Spring Commencement.  Dillard University’s President, Walter M. Kimbrough, Ph.D., was determined for an entire year to bring Grammy nominated singer and actress, Janelle Monae to speak at Dillard’s 81st Commencement ceremonies.  President Kimbrough is delighted to have Janelle to speak at the ceremonies because she embodies the essence of Dillard’s signature programs including STEM and film.

This will be Monae’s first commencement speech, added another title to her multi-talented career list. Her lyrics are poetic and encourage others through melody so I can only imagine what her speech will be to the 2017 spring graduating class. After filming Hidden Figures, Monae was inspired to become an advocate to encourage young girls in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) through research and development. Last year, Monae gave women in STEM a chance to receive $200,000 on scholarships.

Last year, Dillard had the honor of Terrence J to deliver the commencement speech. During this year’s commencement ceremonies, more than 160 bachelor’s degrees will be presented. Dillard University’s 81stCommencement will take place on the historic Avenue of the Oaks located in New Orleans, Louisiana on May 13, 2017 at 8 o’clock in the morning.

I wonder if Ms. Monae’s outfit of choice for the ceremonies will be consistent with her black and white theme.
